Most of us don’t care about party politics. We just want our civil servants to represent our best interests. We want to work together towards a more sane world. Left, right, red, blue, green- none of that matters more than the issues themselves. SW MI believes in moving forward together.
Thousands of people in SW MI believe we can do better. They believe the people can have an effect on state and national politics. They want their opinion to matter- more than the opinions of multinational corporations and special interests.
SW MI for Progress was born of the Bernie Sanders Revolution. We believe that the energy and inertia of that movement was bigger than Bernie. It represented a deep dissatisfaction the American People are feeling. Bernie’s movement to put the power back into the hands of the People has far from ended- it has just begun. This Revolution focuses on the issues above all else; and to this end we aim to elect truly progressive, ‘Berniecrat’ candidates for office (and call out the candidates that are weak on the issues). We believe local politics matter, and we believe we can take Michigan back from the regressive establishment. We believe we can give our state government back to the People.
We also believe we can do the same on the federal level. SW MI has our very own Revolutionary Berniecrat candidate in Paul Clements- twice endorsed by Bernie Sanders himself. We want to send Paul to Washington, because he really does represent the average Michigander.
We also believe in calling out corrupt officials. Rick Snyder is the one to immediately come to mind. But we are not willing to forget corruption on either side of the two-party system. This primary season, we witnessed massive corruption. There is evidence of statistically improbable irregularities in several state's primary results, and all but one of the primary candidates received massive amounts of money from special interests, Wall Street and multinational corporations. Neither mainstream candidate for the general election is seen as honest, and the entire party apparatus of one of the major parties directly colluded in a variety of ways to favor one candidate’s nomination over the other. This kind of behavior is UNACCEPTABLE. This is why SW MI for Progress has a unique stance on the Presidential election. We see many progressive, trustworthy candidates coming from the Michigan Democratic Party. We support many of them. However, we see corruption in the national party, and a candidate that has too many ties to special interests, has been proven to lie when it suits her, and who is not above unfair string-pulling within a national party. For this reason, SW MI for Progress did NOT endorse a political candidate for the 2016 General Election season. We suggested that our brothers and sisters vote their conscience, and urged them to consider third party candidates. They said the 2016 election was in the bag for Hillary Clinton. However, so many stayed home that day, so many that would have went to the polls for Bernie Sanders. We truly believe this is the case: that had he been nominated, Bernie Sanders would have become President.
It is VERY IMPORTANT that we get as many people to the polls in November of 2018 as possible. The Political Revolution continues. We must be the change we wish to see, we must fight for change. Together we will replace the establishment and take our government back for the People.
No matter what party you are from, discussing all viewpoints benefits everyone. None of the candidates should have anything to fear from hearing several arguments, and it's time we start getting to the bottom of the issues. We the People do not want our leaders to hide from debating the issues.
